Englishman Ends Canadian’s Reign As Olympic Champ

After all the WDs that took place before the Olympic men’s golf competition, the event in Rio finished with a marquee trio on the podium.

England’s Justin Rose finished with a four-under 67 to win the gold medal,. At 16 under, Rose finished two shots ahead of silver medalist and 2016 British Open champion Henrik Stenson of Sweden, who finished Sunday with a 68.

Rose, who claimed Olympic golf’s first hole in one during the first round, and Stenson were deadlocked at 15 under going on to the final hole, but Rose birdied, while Stenson bogeyed to give the gold to the Englishman.

American Matt Kuchar charged with a final round 63 to win the bronze medal, placing one shot behind Stenson.

Rose’s victory officially ends a Canadian’s 112-year reign as Olympic men’s champion, that coming in 1904 when George S. Lyon won.

Canadian Graham DeLaet finished with a score of 69 to place 20th at four under, while David Hearn shot a 66 on Sunday to finish at one under, good for a tie for 30th.
